Carmen Lundy

Since launching her career in New York with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra in the 70s, Carmen Lundy cemented herself as one of today's most longstanding jazz vocalists.

Jazz vocalist, composer, arranger, and Grammy-nominated artist Carmen Lundy has always been a driving force for bringing the Jazz genre into the contemporary music world. Her 2019 album Modern Ancestors is nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album at this year's Grammy Awards.

Carmen Lundy is the first of a vying breed, propelling the contemporary jazz movement with purist detail, juxtaposing sounds and soulful charm. Her legacy, four decades long, has reshaped the jazz canon. Ms. Lundy continues to innovate, drawing from current affairs and artistic influences from the African diaspora to mold her latest album Code Noir. We were able to catch up with the world famous jazz artist on a break from her tour where she gave five gems of wisdom she has gained on her artistic journey.

Carmen Lundy, world-renowned Jazz Vocalist, Composer and Arranger, was honored with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Award, presented by the prestigious organization Black Women In Jazz & The Arts. The Gala Awards Ceremony was held in Atlanta, GA on April 10, 2016.
