Railways in Morbihan / Chemins de Fer en Morbihan[edit]
Bonjour,
J'ai une carte du réseau du Morbihan. Je n'ai pas à ce jour de cartes d'autres départements, mais j'y travaille.
There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Steamer or sail-steamer?[edit]
Hi Mjroots. Is this image you uploaded a steam ship or a sail-steam ship? Thanks. Manxruler (talk) 10:15, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's perfectly ok. I just figured that with the masts and all it might be a sail-steamer. It's a steamship anyway. Manxruler (talk) 11:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

St Mary's Mill, Isles of Scilly[edit]
The publication date of Douch's book is 1963, as such the image taken from it (its first publication) remains in copyright, regardless of the date the photograph itself was taken.81.141.80.61 01:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- Likely the image was published as a postcard long before it appeared in Douch's book. As the mill had gone by the late C19th, picture would have been out of copyright by 1963 and free to use. It's subsequent use would not impose a new copyright on the picture. Mjroots (talk) 08:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:10, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Categories in Belgium[edit]
Sorry, but Belgium is too small to add the complexity of an intermediate province level category. Most people in Belgium are not really aware of that (disappearing) administration level and hardly know the frontiers. I'll reintergrate the mills things into one. --Foroa (talk) 07:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

'Wind mills' vs 'Tower mills'...[edit]
Hi Mjroots.
What kind of difference between those cats ?
--Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 22:19, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Llann Wé²: Windmills is the head category. Windmills are subdivided into horizontal axle and vertical axle types. The horizontal axle is the most common, and is itself subdivided. There are three main types - the post mill (en:Post mill), the tower mill (en:Tower mill) and the smock mill (en:smock mill). Thus my removal of categories was merely the removal of head categories.
- I was updating the en:List of windmills in France and the individual département lists linked therefrom. Managed to add several images and a few new entries. I notice that there is no equivalent on the French Wikipedia. Maybe you would like to have a go at creating them? Sorry, but my French isn't good enough, although we could work together on this if you would like. Mjroots (talk) 09:58, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mjroots.
- Thank you. for your reply and links. Now, I see what you meant .
- In french, there's only Windmill ; tower or vertical, (in France) we call them "moulins à vent" and the fr. page has many details on different kind of windmills so detailled pages are not needed.
- Thanks again. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 12:23, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Llann Wé²: the French fr:moulin à vent article was missing info on smock mills (moulin tour en bois), so I added a bit, but it will probably need checking as I'm only fr-1! Mjroots (talk) 12:38, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- I fixed your text. Thanks for this precision. Have a fine end of Sunday. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 13:15, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

RVR platform tickets[edit]
Hello, I've just been looking through pictures of old rail tickets as image sources. These tickets are certainly not nineteenth century - they're modern reconstructions. You can tell because they use two very recognisable fonts: Metro from 1929 and Helvetica from 1957. Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions about this. Blythwood (talk) 11:34, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Blythwood: I know nothing of the fonts. What I do know is that I acquired these direct from K&ESR at Tenterden in the mid-1970s when they were being sold to raise funds to extend past Rolvenden. AFAIK, they are the genuine article. Mjroots (talk) 12:05, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the reply. I think it's extremely unlikely that they're original, sorry. As far as I'm aware, no fonts like Metro were in use in the nineteenth century or early twentieth, and Helvetica (while based on earlier fonts, unlike Metro which was an original design) is pretty distinctive in its proportions too. If you look at old rail tickets on here or elsewhere certainly from the turn of the century, you'll find that they use very different fonts. On the images you've shown, Helvetica is used for almost all text, with Metro for the station name and bigger numbers. Metro was released in a variety of versions in the metal type period and this doesn't quite match any digitisation, but this digitisation with some of the alternate characters (the M with no verticals and G with a horizontal) is a match. A lot of the shapes of Metro's numerals are especially distinctive, like the '4' where the slanting stroke is visibly thinner than the others, and the way the '7' widens as it goes down. qBlythwood (talk) 12:16, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
